Blues Guitar Blueprint Review – Breaking Free from Blues Scales
The Blues Guitar Blueprint, taught by Nate Savage and produced by Rail Road Media Inc (a well known music instruction publisher with titles like: drumming system, piano system and beginner guitar system) is targeting the intermediate and beginner guitar player who’s looking to really break free from memorizing pentatonic scale shapes and learning licks to creating their own riffs and really learning their way around the guitar neck.
The course is made up of 2 Lesson DVDs, 4 Jam Along Cds, detailed workbook and online access to the private members forum.
The backbone of the course are the lesson DVDs and jam along tracks. Since blues is as much about feel as it is about technique you need to practice, practice and then practice some more to really get the feel of where to go on the neck in different situations.

Jam Tracks
The Jam Along tracks included on the Cds with the Blues Guitar Blueprint will do just that, give you a great environment to practice in.
Each jam track is included with full band tracks, with all band tracks except the guitar as well as with a metronome. They’re also available in 7 different keys so you will become well versed all over the neck not just in one position or key.
Beyond Blues Scales
I would say that the goal of the blues guitar blueprint is to help you learn to use blues scales in a way that isn’t so linear. By that I mean, when we first learn a blues pentatonic shape in the key of A it’s really fun. We find a few neat sounding licks and then play them over and over. Eventually we exhaust the possibilities how ever of what we can do with that scale shape.
The Blues Guitar Blueprint teaches a better understanding of how the different scale shapes connect, other notes and scales you can use in conjunction with the blues scale as well as chords to create your own unique blues sound rather then just twenty or thirty blues licks you memorize.

The DVDs
Each video lesson was shot using HD camera equipment so the quality is fantastic. Also the lessons take advantage of split screen technology so you get a shot of Nates strumming hand, fretting hand and the full shot of him playing.
This split screen style gives you a close up look at each technique being taught making it easier for you to duplicate at home.
Workbook
While learning from a lesson book on it’s own is pretty boring the workbook included with the Blues Guitar Blueprint will review the concepts taught in each lesson and give you some to practice from so the DVD’s aren’t required every time.
Conclusion
The Blues Guitar Blueprint is a good looking course. By that I mean a lot of production time was put into the videos, recording and layout of the entire course. I believe it accomplishes the goal of helping you better understand blues scales in a variety of different keys.
As a complete blues primer I believe this course could use a bit more content about the basics of blues chords, 12 bar blues etc. The Learn and Master Blues Spotlight Course does a bit better job at being a full blues primer.
For the price this is a good course for younger guitar players looking to learn electric rock blues guitar and become a better lead guitar player.
